Top Fantasy Romance Anime

In this list, I will share fantasy type anime. Fantasy is any work of fiction involving the supernatural or out of the ordinary. It can be magic, fantastic creatures, an imaginary world and it can concern the characters, the context or others.

• Sugar apple fairy tail

Release date: 2023
Themes: Romance, fantasy

The plot takes place in a world where fairies have become slaves to humans as they have found their weak point: their wings.. Anne Halford is a young practitioner of the art of sugaring. In fact, it is the only food that fairies really appreciate. She will therefore want to go to a competition to be recognized for her talent. In her journey, she will meet a fairy Shall Fen Shall, with sinister and closed appearances, but who hides a lot.

This anime mixes adventure, fantasy, romance and drama. It was a wonderful discovery for me this year. I'm so happy that the season is planned so quickly, for this summer.

• Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta

The story takes place on flying continents. Kal-El Albus has been selected to enter a prestigious aviation school. Kal is an ambitious young boy with a troubled past and a deep hatred for the continent's ruler, Nina Viento.

For me, this anime is really a hidden gem. Personally, I hadn't heard much about it and even when I did, it was undervalued. I was really very surprised at the turn of events and the characters.

• Grancrest senki

Release date: 2018
Themes: Romance, fantasy

The continent is ruled by war chaos. The mages who once used their power to protect the people, now compete for power and territories. Our protagonists, Shiruka, a mage and Theo, a warrior, will very quickly come together for the same cause, to put an end to chaos and injustice.

This anime deals with a very interesting military and political fantasy. It's a shame that sometimes it feels a little rushed.

• Zero no tsukaima

Louise Françoise Le Blanc de la Vallière studies at a Magic Academy but is underestimated and mocked by her comrades as she is very clumsy but also since it seems that she has a very weak magic compared to others. Moreover, during the annual summoning ceremony, while everyone else summons impressive magical creatures, Louise summons...a human. From this moment secrets will be revealed and show that appearances can be deceiving. 

This anime is a classic and is complete. The development of the characters is interesting and the romance really present.

• The ancient magus bride

Chise Hatori was a slave without family or friends until the day she was bought by Magus Elias Ainsworth, a powerful and respected character. Very quickly, he detected in Chise an important magical potential and decided to train her. That's not all. Besides being his apprentice, he wants her to become his wife.

This anime is the favorite of many. It is very diverse and covers many genres. The story and characters are very original and it has music that is among the best. A season 2 was released this year after years of waiting. Another has also been announced.

• Kaze no stigma

Kazuma Yagami was rejected from his family, powerful ancestors mastering the power of fire, since he was never able to master this incredible power. He will therefore isolate himself, travel and develop even more powerful abilities. Soon enough, he will find himself facing his past when several events will bring him back to reconnect with the people who chased him away.

The protagonists both have imposing and charismatic personalities. The dynamic between the two is quite funny to see as they are like dog and cat.

• Akuyaku Reijō Nanode Last Boss wo Katte Mimashita

A seriously ill young woman who spends her time playing Otome games, finds herself reincarnated in her favorite game, as Irene Loren, the villain of the game. But in the game's script, she is supposed to die because of the antagonist.

This anime is in my opinion one of the best recent romance anime. It is complete and satisfying. Anime with main characters with villain status, are very popular right now. The characters are iconic, the story well written with a hilarious comedy. The only thing that's unfortunate is that it's short and the whole story takes place in so few episodes, which can sometimes give the impression of a frantic pace.

• Seijo no marioku wa Bannou desu

Sei was an office worker like any other until she got carried away into a fantastical and magical world. In fact, she was called by this world who performed a ritual to invoke a holy saint who will save their world. But from the beginning, dramas will take place and the adventure will seem difficult for our protagonist.

I really enjoyed this anime. The colors are vivid. It really is a feel good anime with a powerful and charismatic character. It was very refreshing to watch in a blind era of harem and ecchi romance. Season 2 has been announced and I can't wait to see it.

• Kenja no mago

Shin was once a normal human who reincarnated in a magical world. In this world, he is the most powerful magician, raised by the best and respected characters of this world. He learned everything from them except socialization. He will therefore be sent to a school of magic, to be able to make friends of his age. But that seems to displease some, and will provide dangerous opportunities for others.

Although the storyline is nothing new and it may seem like any isekai, I still enjoyed both main and supporting characters. The romance is present and cute. The villains are also very charismatic.

• Kamisama hajimemashita

Nanami finds herself alone, homeless, abandoned by her father with debts. But she will meet a very curious character, who will reach out to her and offer her a place to sleep. It turns out that this man left her much more than just a bed.

This anime is one of the best known in terms of fantasy Shojo anime. It manages to balance the context, the humor and then little by little this visceral hatred that will turn into unshakable love.

• Kimi to boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen

Release date: 2020
Themes: Action, romance, fantasy
Episodes: 12

Two countries are at war: The country of witches, with people with magical abilities and the Empire. The two MC are enemies and will clash several times on the battlefield, but it might not last long.

This anime is kind of a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. A beautiful animation, a story that makes sense and remains to be developed and two talented heroes. It's not a very innovative anime, nothing new, but it's interesting anime. A season 2 has been announced.
