Top co-op games on Nintendo Switch and PS5

 

In this list, I'm going to share our favorite multiplayer games on Nintendo Switch and PS5. I wanted to highlight some games that I think are underrated and that we found by chance, not by searching the internet. I didn’t include Mario games as I think it’s already well known enough.

• Nine parchments

Release date : 2017

We bought this game because it was on sale, without having expectations.

But it was a very funny game to play, we were very surprised. Although it can be a bit repetitive, we really had fun. You can choose your magician, and gain new powers as you go. It was also very funny because difficult at times but also the fact that you can attack your teammates. The game is very pretty to look at with lots of colors and a nice quality. I recommend this game if you are 2 or more players. We had no technical issues on the switch.

• It takes two

This game is one of the best we've played on Switch. It is a long, complete and innovative game. You can basically find almost any style of games in one! The style of play is so diverse, you never get bored. Adventure, mini game, very good writing that mixes humor with deeper topics such as divorce. Although we played there every night, it took us a long time to finish. We have nothing negative to say about the game, it's just amazing. A perfect game for two players.

• Overcooked

It's probably not a surprise to see this game in this top since it's probably the most popular co-op game on switch. It's a very funny cooking game that will put a strain on group cohesion and communication. We personally preferred the second opus because the features and quality are superior. But now you can get both versions of the game in one buy 'All you can eat'. Besides, if you purchased one of the games, you will automatically get 75% off on any of the others.

• Cuphead

This game is surely one of the most difficult and crazy that we have. The graphics are very original and give a vintage and old style look that is nostalgic. This game has really been thought through in every way, graphics, music, characters. It really is a unique game.

It's a difficult game, some levels take a long time, but when you finally get there, it's very satisfying. It is punitive and rewarding at the same time. Besides, the gameplay really takes precedence over the quality of the story.

It's a very funny game for two. Work together to find a way to complete the level despite the obstacles.

• Children of morta

Another game that we didn't see pop up a lot but really enjoyed.

You will be able to get new characters little by little. Each character has specific quirks and powers. The art and animation is really well done, there's a real atmosphere to this game that's both dark mixed in with that family background. We finished the game fairly quickly and would have liked it to be longer. 

• Biped

This is a very cute and refreshing game to play. It takes a bit of time to get used to the controls to direct the characters but it's very fun at the same time. You will have to be on the same timing and work together to complete the levels. It really requires the cooperation of two players. If one is not focused, it can jeopardize the whole strategy.

We really laughed a lot while playing this game but unfortunately it was relatively short, completed within few hours.

• A way out

This game is the most recent game we've tested on PlayStation 5. There aren't many options on PS5 at the moment, so we were very happy to find this game on sale.

The characters are really very different from each other. They both have heavy pasts and different ways of living and thinking. But they complement each other at times. I find it interesting that there is often the choice on how to approach a situation dependent on their personality. In this game, the characters are really dependent on each other and can only solve a problem by working together. We were extremely surprised at the ending. We finished the game very quickly. There is a variety of situations and mini games, you never get bored. It's a really good game, which isn't surprising coming from the creators of It Takes Two.

• Brothers : a tale of two sons

Release date : 2013

Genre : Action, adventure, indie

It follows the story of a father being sick and his sons must travel to find a cure. It's a very touching game. I remember letting some tears flow. I played it with my partner, then again with my sister. This game is truly an immersion in a world and we felt like being part of the family. Although this game is a bit older than the others on this list, the visuals were really pretty. It's one of the first games we got on Switch and it really left its mark.

• Unravel 2

Staff : Coldwood Interactive, EA

Unravel 2 is a very cute and simple game, with a simple story.

It is one of the best co-op games, which combines strategy, puzzle with incredible sweetness and emotion. It's an easy game to understand in the controls, although cooperation with a partner can be strained at times and can be very funny. This is a really calm and relaxing game. The music, the visuals, the atmosphere takes you deep into the game.
