Top Vampire Romance Anime

In this list, I will share anime that revolves around characters who are vampires, in different contexts, both historical and violent and in a softer and schooler universe. Please take into account that these anime should be taken in the second degree and that violence should not be glamorized and that consent is crucial.

• Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu

The story takes place in a fictional world and yet deals with very real subjects that are familiar to our present world. Indeed, two powerful sides were at war for a very long time and have the ambition to conquer space. Lev Leps, a replacement astronaut candidate and his new companion, the vampire Irina Ruminescu will have to train together.

This anime is one of the newest on this list. It is interesting to see the two characters who, despite being so different, share the same dreams. The anime addresses various serious subjects, such as racial discrimination, through a background of lightness and a pleasant atmosphere. It's anime has gone unnoticed but deserves to be seen.

• Tian Mei De Yao Hen

Humans and vampires have been at war for decades. The action takes place in a school welcoming all students, humans, vampires and others. Our protagonist has a hatred towards vampires due to past traumas. But when she will stir up the anger but also the curiosity of a vampire prince, her vision of things may change.

It is an anime representing a relationship of hate and love as well as the so-called forbidden and impossible relationships. We can see them being in a constant inner battle torn between following reason or their heart. The anime is rather short, there is currently no information regarding a possible second season.

• Strike the Blood

Itogami Island is an artificial island where the majority of the inhabitants are 'special': spirits, demons, mermaids, vampires. Kojô Akatsuki was a human like the others until he became the heir to overpowering abilities and the most powerful vampire in existence. He will meet Yukina Himeragi whose mission is to monitor him because of his new powers since this power is not very well received and considered a potential threat.

I enjoyed the anime despite the presence of ecchi and fanservice many times. We have this side a little hastily/love between the characters at the beginning of the story, who will however have to cooperate.

• Devils' Line

Tsukasa Taira is a young girl who one day is rescued by a vampire. Her savior is actually half human and half vampire but also a policeman, who fights for everyone's safety and peace, although many vampires go beyond the limits and attack humans. They will meet again several times, get closer, while our policeman is torn between his brain and his natural desires and needs as a vampire.

In my opinion this anime is one of the best and I think it's not quoted enough in its category. The romance is really present and explicit. The characters are very interesting and well written. Although the story seems simple and basic, it is very well executed with twists and turns.

• Blood+

A war between terrifying creatures and a group of protectors has been going on for years.

Saya Otonashi, a young high school student lives peacefully with her father and brothers but does not remember her past for more than a year. One evening, a monster attacks her and she will be helped by a mysterious man. This event will thus put an end to Saya's peaceful life and will awaken a mysterious unknown power in her.

This anime is darker than the others. The characters are really charismatic and powerful. We enjoy watching the fights. Despite the number of episodes, we do not get bored, we remain captive throughout this mysterious adventure.

• Bakemonogatari

Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student, manages to escape from a vampire attack to later become one himself. From this moment he will witness funny occurrences and aberrations but also meet characters who are in the same situation as him.

This anime is a light novel adaptation that has many sequels and alternate works. There are a total of 13 opus around this universe. It's a truly one-of-a-kind anime and will be a hit or miss depending on your tastes. It looks like no other anime.

• Vampire Knight

Everything takes place in a school where vampires and humans live side by side. Yuki is part of a special brigade and is one of the only ones to know the secret of vampires. She also has a special relationship with this matter since she was the victim of a vampire when she was a child, but was also saved by another vampire. She is therefore torn between her fascination for her savior and hatred towards unhealthy vampires since her best friend has also lost his whole family because of vampires.

This anime is one of the most popular in its category so it's no surprise that it is present in this list. While watching we have a lot of questions about vampires, about family secrets and the real truth. The music is simply iconic and I still listen to it years later.

• Kurozuka

Release date: 2008

The anime takes place in a medieval and historical context. Kuro is on the run during fierce fighting and finds refuge in a foreign house, isolated from the world.

It's a melodramatic anime with a deep and interesting story that can sometimes be difficult to understand if you don't stay focused. The romance is quirky and unconventional.

What is sure and important to point out is that this anime is really more mature than what we are used to seeing. It is notably more violent and more explicit than the average. It's really pure action and sensitive subjects at times. So I suggest you really be aware of the trigger warnings before you start it.

• Vanitas no carte

Release date: 2021

Episodes: 24 (2 seasons)

The story takes place mainly in Paris in the 19th century. Noe will have a mysterious encounter during his journey, a person in search of a mysterious book, which will prevail in a world of secrets, mysteries, betrayal and more.
By the same creator as Pandora hearts who has an overflowing imagination and who always uses very interesting references. This anime is super funny and amazing graphic quality. The manga isn't finished yet, so I hope a season 3 is possible.

 

• Blood Lad

The main character is what we might call someone atypical. Indeed, it would seem that he is completely obsessed and fascinated by human Japanese culture. One day he hears that a human has arrived in their world, and rushes to meet her. But events will take a funny turn when this human will turn into a ghost, unable to return to her world. Then begins a funny adventure and relationship between the characters while trying to send her back to the human world, without knowing how.

This anime is well centered on the humorous side which can even seem parodic. It's really light, without being serious.
