In this list, I will share anime that have drama as a major theme. I will mainly quote school and slice of life anime. What I mean by 'drama' may be an emotional family drama due to trauma or events but also dramas generated by third parties out of jealousy or otherwise.

• Boys over flowers

Anyone going against them ends up being bullied. Will that stop Makino? Heck no. I can guarantee that you will not be bored watching BOF!

Following a very determined female main character, the anime is filled with drama, love triangles, but also social classes differences.

• Fruit basket

Tohru Honda is a young girl who is always happy and positive despite all the traumas she has overcome in her life. As she finds herself homeless, she meets the big 'Soma' family and learns their secret: They are cursed by the twelve zodiacs, which complicate their life and is becoming unbearable. She will then want to help and understand them at all costs.

This anime is just amazing. It is a re-adaptation of a classic shoujo which has already had an incomplete adaptation. This anime goes through different moods : light and funny phases, with clashes between the characters and other very very deep and serious talking about trauma, manipulation, psychological violence and others.

• Peach girl

Momo Adachi loved swimming when she was young. As a result, being constantly exposed to the sun, her skin tanned. Because of that she had to deal with mockery, jealousy, and comments from her classmates. But surrounded by a not really sincere friend, and the high school playboy, her life is far from easy.

This anime is full of drama ! There isn't an episode where nothing happens !

• Sukkite ii na yo

This anime is really in my opinion one of the most mature in terms of school anime. Very serious themes are tackled and it is interesting to see the evolution of each of the characters.

I think this anime is the saddest and most sensitive on this list. It keeps us in suspense as we try to understand and know what is really going to happen. Will such succeed in changing the future? would that be a good ending?

• 3D Kanojo

• Bokura ga ita

Nanami arrives at high school and finds herself working with the most popular boy. The two will get to know each other and a relationship will grow.

This anime is the typical depiction of the naïve young girl who falls in love with the popular guy. This anime has a lot of drama due to the respective past of the characters but also by the difficulty in their relationship, the kind of relationship where there are more problems than calm moments, which can be representative of young first romantic relationships.
